Finland, Baltic countries to get support package for milk producers

Milk production increased for the fourth year in a row
According to the preliminary data of Statistics Estonia, the production of milk amounted to 762,300 tons in 2013, which is 6% more than a year earlier. The number of dairy cows did not change compared to the previous year, but milk production per cow increased.
Russian customs union bans imports of Estonian milk and fish industries
Starting January 9th, the Russian customs union with Belarus and Kazakhstan imposes a temporary import ban on five Estonian dairy industries and six fish producing industries.

Milk purchase price in Estonia up 3.9 pct on year in April
In April Estonian dairy companies' purchases of milk increased by 6.4 percent year-on-year to 58,200 tons and the average purchase price was 3.9 percent higher than the year before at 325.41 euros per ton.

Estonia’s average milk production tops 8,000 kg
As of January 1st 2013, performance testing of milk cows stood at 833 herds and 90,274 cows, which is 94 per cent of all cows in Estonia. The leading regions being Järva County, Lääne-Viru County and Jõgeva County with 13,305, 10,769, and 9,976 cows, respectively.
