Hooaja teine avakontsert maestro Neeme Järvi juhatusel on pühendatud oma aja kuulsaima Saksa helilooja ja dirigendi Richard Straussi 150. sünniaastapäevale. Maailma ooperimajades ja kontserdisaalides on sel aastal aukohal tema ooperid ja instrumentaalteosed, Saksamaal anti selle sündmuse jäädvustamiseks välja spetsiaalne 10-eurone hõbemünt, millel kujutatud Richard Straussi portreed ümbritseb tekst “Richard Strauss – 150. Geburtstag”.
Kontserdil tulevad ettekandele ka teosed kahelt naisheliloojalt – ameeriklanna Amy Beachi iiri teemadel põhinev “Gaeli sümfoonia” ja Gustav Mahleri abikaasa Alma Mahleri laulud, mille on orkestrile seadnud heliloojatest vennad, inglased Colin und David Matthews.
Solistiks on Soome metsosopran Lilli Paasikivi – Soome Rahvusooperi esisolist, alates hooajast 2013/14 ka teatri kunstiline juht –, kelle Alma Mahleri orkestrilaulude sisukaid ja intelligentseid esitusi on võrreldud kalliskividega, millest ükski vokaalmuusikaaustaja ei suuda keelduda.
ERSO ees on Lilli Paasikivi esinenud mitmel korral, soleerides Gustav Mahleri II sümfoonia ja Sibeliuse ooperi “Neiu vangitornis” ettekannetel Paavo Järvi juhatusel. Sibeliuse ooper salvestati firmale Virgin Classics ning see pälvis rahvusvahelises pressis rohkelt positiivset vastukaja.
The second opening concert of the season under the baton of maestro Neeme Järvi will be dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Richard Strauss, the most famous German composer and conductor of his time. This year, opera houses and concert halls around the world have given his operas and instrumental works pride of place. A special 10-euro silver coin was released in Germany depicting a portrait of Richard Strauss surrounded by the text “Richard Strauss – 150. Geburtstag”.
Two pieces by female composers will be performed at the concert – “Gaelic Symphony” by American composer Amy Beach, and songs by Alma Mahler, wife of Gustav Mahler, arranged for orchestra by the English composer brothers, Colin and David Matthews.
The soloist will be Finnish mezzo-soprano Lilli Paasikivi – leading mezzo-soprano of the Finnish National Opera and since the 2013/14 season also its artistic director – whose meaningful and intelligent performances of Alma Mahler’s orchestral songs have been compared to precious jewels that any vocal music lover could not resist.
Lilli Paasikivi has performed in front of ENSO many times, appearing as soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 and Sibelius’s opera “The Maiden in the Tower” under the baton of Paavo Järvi. The opera by Sibelius was recorded for Virgin Classics and received great praise from the international press.
